| SEC looking at JPMorgan financial reporting |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Securities and Exchange Commission will look into the "appropriateness and completeness" of JPMorgan Chase & Co's financial reporting, SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro told the Senate Banking Committee on Tuesday. Earlier this month, JPMorgan said it had lost at least $2 billion - a figure that's expected to grow - on trades tied to credit derivatives. | Mediclinic FY profit lags consensus,shares fall |
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Mediclinic International, South Africa's second-largest hospital group, posted a smaller-than-expected rise in full-year profit on Tuesday, hurt in part by higher costs at some of its Swiss operations. Mediclinic, which operates in South Africa, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates, said diluted normalised headline earnings per share totalled 185.7 cents in the year to end-March, well below the average estimate of 215.3 cents in a poll of eight analysts by Thomson Reuters. (Reuters) - Citigroup said it has a cautious view on the U.S. small-and mid-cap companies on concerns over earnings pressure in the second half amid the euro zone crisis and the political uncertainty in the United States. Analyst Scott Chronert downgraded the small and mid-cap technology sector to "market weight", saying expectations for margin improvement for the group may be tough to meet even as valuations remain attractive. | Tiger Brands posts rise in first-half earnings |
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South African consumer goods firm Tiger Brands posted a modest rise in first-half earnings on Tuesday, helped by growth in its exports and international businesses as the domestic market remains subdued. The maker of bread, breakfast cereal and energy drinks said diluted headline earnings per share for the six months to end of March rose four percent to 766 cents. Headline earnings are the main profit gauge in South Africa and exclude certain one-off items. The company said revenue rose 12 percent to 11.6 billion rand. ...

Lowe's Cos.' first-quarter profit climbed 14 percent as warmer weather helped boost sales earlier in the quarter.
